If you don’t look after your equipment, how can you expect it to look after you?
Storing wires in such a messy way can cause the insulation to be damaged or split when you try to remove them from the intertwined bundle.
Split or melted off insulation means that leads will fail the pat test. There is also the possibility of internal damage to the inner cores which isn’t easily detected.

Please be aware that not all goods bought from internet sellers are full UK or CE approved.
This molded plug and IEC lead has no fuse holder or fuse within the plug, and is clearly not UK specification. Found in use in a school. Failed and removed from use during a yearly pat test.
Also look out for very lightweight or thin cables, flimsy plastic cases around power supplies, wrong coloured wiring and badly connected terminals in plugs and extention leads.
Why would you continue to use an item that has been failed on a previous test and inspection?
This item was found in use, a year on having failed from the previous Pat test, it should have been removed and replaced.
Some clients ask us to report failed items, some ask us to remove from use and disable failed items. Either way, it is always the person using the equipments responsibility to carry out a user check before use, usually daily or weekly. This very clearly damaged and stickered item should never have been in use.
